Thomas Gruenewald

Thomas Gruenewald has directing experience spanning the repertoire from Shakespeare through opera and contemporary musicals. He has worked on Broadway (Take Me Along), off-Broadway, at regional theaters including Hartford Stage Company, Goodspeed Opera House, Huntington Theater (Boston), Arena Stage (Washington D.C.), Indianapolis Rep, Actors Theater of Louisville, Cohoes Musical Hall, Great Lakes Shakespeare Festival (Cleveland), Milwaukee Rep, ACT (Seattle) and many more. He has staged many operas for the Orchestra of St. Lukes at Alice Tully Hall, BAM, 92nd St. Y, and the Caramoor Festival. As a Guest Director and Adjunct Professor, among many schools, he has taught at NYU, Stella Adler Academy, AMDA, Universities of Texas, Miami, Wisconsin, Montana, and Washington. After earning a BA at the University of Wisconsin and an MFA at Columbia University, Mr. Gruenewald began his career as an actor and stage manager for the New York Shakespeare Festival and the Phoenix Theater. Since moving to the Northwest Corner of Connecticut he has worked with New Stage in Pittsfield, MA; several prep schools; and, for the Aglet Theatre Company, he has directed and acted in many productions.
